For those who are happily retired, how did you decide it was no longer worth it to keep working?

Well, I officially "retired" when my daughter graduated college and I was done helping her pay for it. Plus, we were happier when I was home cleaning, cooking healthy meals and doing maintenance on the house. Less stress all around.

It was getting to be too much to drive 30 minutes one way for my part time job. I was also having some health issues. Decided to retire fully.

I just decided it was the right time after being in childcare for 30 years, and I worked 2 years over our retirement age, so I hung up my sign that said open to say permanently closed for business as the last 3 children left and moved away. I also told my partner and she did the same thing and retired with me.
