What on Earth is "Baptised in the Spirit" supposed to mean?

In First Corinthians chapter twelve there's mention of "by one Spirit we were all baptised into one body" but some folk take that to be about a distinct work of the Holy Spirit separate from baptism and separate from personal conversion. The are some passages that refer to John baptising with water and the Lord Jesus Christ baptising with fire and the Spirit, but that is an action of Jesus Christ if he is the one doing the baptising and there's nothing in the passages to indicate that there are two Christian baptisms.

But when he [John the Baptist] saw many of the Pharisees and Sad'ducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruit that befits repentance, and do not presume to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father'; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. "I baptise you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
(Matthew 3:7-11)

There's not even a hint of two Christian baptisms in this story.

The contrast is between John's baptism and Christian Baptism.

Christian baptism is experienced by nearly every Christian.

Yes, nearly all Christian groups baptise. The only significant group that I know of that may not baptise is the Salvation Army.

Very true, which is why we are to be teaching what the word teaches about being baptized in the Holy Spirit. People cannot receive it if no one is teaching the truth about it. This is one particular failing in a great many churches today---they do not teach and preach the whole truth.

Hebrews 6:1-3
So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. 2 You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding.

Alas, it appears that even 2000 years later, many still are not teaching the basics.

I baptise you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

water ... fire (for Gd is a consuming Fire
and the lampstand were seven candles sticked with 7 flames the spirit of the seven churches ... spirit = fire
God appeared to moses in fire but the bush was not burned -so we know it was not physical fire but the spiritual fire of the presence of God etc .

this is a short and undetailed reply. but one thing is very clear from the above verse .. one thing is not the other .

a person who is truly saved and truly repentant in heart and of true faith ... after having obeyed the Gospel from the heart ..(for from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks so they wil begin to confess Jesus as Lord - not remain silent about it ) - is then acknowledged by God when he places his down payment of the surety of his promises within us i the for and presence of His very Own Holy Spirit .(and the only biblical evidence that this has first transpired is tongues )

When you were born from above (John 3:1-5) did you personally do something in order to receive it?

The only thing we can do is believe in Jesus as Saviour. We cannot DO one thing to merit God's great grace.
